The (F)unemployment Mixtape

“T’was a warm Black Friday afternoon…”

I lost my job.

On “Black Friday” of all days.  Give me some credit with that opening line. It will sound cool when I eventually write my memoir.  Do not feel bad for me because I surely don’t. The root un- (as in unemployed) means “not or none,” well doesn’t that sound depressing.  Eff that! Throw a F on that and you got Funemployment! I now have 52.5 hours+ weekly do what I want to do including develop my custom home decor business. Happiness is about perspective.  It is an unfortunate situation but I am still happy! Within the 1st week of funemployment I was able to get the website revamped. Sweet! Check me out (or check us out at  At some point I felt a little guilty about how HAPPY I am that they let me go but I got over it. ASAP.

Yes, I am aware of the following:

  • That the economy is in shambles.
  • Of how many people need a job.
  • I should be elated to have one.
  • To lose the one I had is horrible.

Blah, blah, blah, ok cool I get it. Why put my spirit in a recession because of a temporary situation? Doesn’t make sense plus stress doesn’t bring checks. Of course I want wealth but only on my terms *steps off soapbox*.  I am sure I am not the only one without a “job” so I created a playlist it is full of inspiration, opulence, freedom and hustling. We need it.  Hopefully you will listen while applying for jobs or creating your own opportunities!

Some of my favorite quotes from the playlist

“Jigga, I don’t like it if it don’t gleam clean And to hell with the price cause the money ain’t a thang” -Jermaine Dupri Money Aint A Thang”

“Tomorrow’s getting harder make no mistake Luck ain’t even lucky, Got to make your own breaks….It’s my life It’s now or never I ain’t gonna live forever I just want to live while I’m alive”- Bon Jovi “It’s My Life”

“Left a good job in the city Workin’ for the Man every night and day
But I never lost a minute of sleepin’ Worryin’ ‘bout the way things might have been”- Ike and Tina Tuner “Proud Mary”

“Cuz when the teeth stop showin’ and the stomach start growlin’ Then the heat start flowin’ If you from the hood I know you feel me ([Jay-Z:] Keep goin’…)”- Freeway “What We Do “

“We want more than this world’s got to offer We want more than this world’s got to offer We want more than the wars of our fathers And everything inside screams for second life, yeah….We were meant to live for so much more Have we lost ourselves?”- Switchfoot “Meant To Live”
