The hostess with the mostest/chef, Zainie Misbach and I

As you already know I like to add a bit of culture with my ratchet while abroad. If you’ve been following me on Instagram you know I had a fantastic trip to South Africa recently. I was able to visit the Apartheid Museum in Johannesburg and club hop in Cape Town. One of my favorite moments was when I took a cooking class with Zainie Misbach in the Bo-Kaap area of Cape Town. We made Roti, curry chicken, samoosas, and my new favorite snack Chilly Bites- “Daltjies.” It is a spiced spinach ball of greatness and I cannot wait to share the recipe with you!

Heat the oil on a medium flame. Warm a spoon by dipping it into the hot oil then scoop enough dough to make one “daktjie” and drop it into the oil. Fry until throughly cooked. Drain daltjies on tissue paper.

Tip Use a skewer stick to poke the center of the chilly bite while frying to know when it is completely fried.
