7 Years A Side Hustler: My Journey As a Budding Brooklynite

essential tips for travellers

Do you know what today is???? It is My anniversary!

August 1st I celebrated SEVEN years living in Bed Stuy “Do or Die” Brooklyn. Seven years is a glorious feat to be in the city that never sleeps not only have I been here but I have been in the same apartment. *MAJOR KEY ALERT* that kind of longevity rarely happens amongst New Yorkers. It has been a long road with many highs, lows and side hustles.

Side Hustle /sīd/ /ˈhəsəl/

A way to make some extra cash that allows you flexibility to pursue what you’re most interested in. It can also be your true passion – a chance to delve into fashion, travel or whatever it is you care about the most without quitting your day job.

  • Selling handmade items on Etsy
  • Tax preparer
  • Sell new and used stuff on Ebay or the Let Go App Android  iPhone
  • Brand Ambassadorship
  • Selling quick design services on Fiverr
  • Be an Uber Driver
  • Become an Air Bnb Host
  • Get commission selling hot ticket items using Amazon Affiliates
  • Secret shopper
  • Start an online course
  • Taking surveys online for money or Flyer Miles
  • Accounting services
  • Virtual Assistance via Upwork.com
  • Be a friend for hire (I have never done this) at rentafriend.com
  • If you are handy sign up for Taskrabbit.com

If you hustle it will come… The possibilities are endless on and offline you just have to work at it.

From selling comedy tickets in Times Square to working for the Census Bureau collecting surveys A.V. Does What!? everything.  What keep me going when I wanted quit was realigning myself with my faith and support system. It has paid off! I recommend that all my entrepreneurial and creative peers find what keeps them centered as they work hard for their dreams. Find a hustle that makes sense but will keep you focused on what is important (your dreams) AND will prevent you from starving. Eating is important don’t forget to eat.

I had a chat with on Facebook Live about some of my trials and triumphs as a side hustler, where I am currently and where I am going.

  1. Congrats on 7 years! I think the coolest side hustle I’ve had was reviewing movies and preview for Disney. $30 to sit in a theater for a few minutes…and possibly stay to enjoy the whole movie! #blmgirls
